Marshall Elementary School
A Safe, Organized, Accountable, and Respectful Community

Welcome to Marshall and the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year!

Last year at this time I was very excited to share many of the new programs being put in place at Marshall. Our teachers began working in Professional Learning Community teams focusing on student learning. We revised our building schedule and resources to be more responsive to student needs. We worked to build a more collaborative culture within the building where we see each student as “our” student. We implemented new behavioral expectations using our SOAR program (Safe, Organized, Accountable, and Respectful), with a focus on reinforcing positive behaviors. In addition, each Wednesday, we shared our learning with each other and strengthened our sense of a school-wide community during our WOW! Morning Meeting. We also incorporated a daily fitness activity into our morning routines.

I am still very excited about these programs and the results we experienced were outstanding. We increased the sense of community with our WOW meetings, which were our highest attended day every week. In addition we experienced a 40% drop in discipline referrals as a result of our SOAR program. Finally, I am pleased to announce that Marshall Elementary met eight out of eight state indicators and has been rated as an Excellent school by the Ohio Department of Education. I am so proud of our all of our accomplishments. Congratulations to our students, staff, and families!

As always, we are committed to meeting the needs of each and every student and we encourage you to be an active participant in your child’s education. Our learning community includes all of our families and you are an integral part of the success of Marshall School. Parents participate in our Reading-At-Home Program, are members of our Parent-Teacher Group (PTG), and volunteer as tutors and mentors, working directly with students. We encourage you to become a Marshall volunteer and experience first hand the learning that takes place at school.

We’re looking forward to the new school year and hope you are too! If you have any questions please call us at 513-273-3600.

Sincerely,

Mr. Chad Hinton
